This course is suitable for students who have a dedication and passion for performing. Our program fosters actors to train in front of the stage as well as behind the scenes. Students will be involved in stimulating classes exploring the fundamentals of the performing arts and exploring a variety of skills including: acting singing and dancing.
Students will hone their skills and gain experience through a variety of formal and informal performances. The Youth Performance Studio students will have the opportunity to be affiliated to main house productions and shows. Subject to suitable rolls available and an audition process.
Over the course students will build self awareness, confidence, poise and social skills. Performance serves as an outlet for students to express themselves, be able to receive/take direction and embrace creative collaboration. Students will have the opportunity to learn these new life skills within a positive, safe and supportive environment. Numbers are limited to ensure individualised attention and foster talent within an intimate learning space.
As a kid…I still remember my first ever Drama class. I felt like I had found somewhere I could belong. This sense of belonging came from feeling like I was included and part of something. I had found a space where I could openly explore my imagination and creativity, whilst learning how to collaborate with other students. Most importantly it built my confidence. I had found the tools of how to effectively communicate and express myself. Drama is a great mechanism in building a sense of identity, confidence and positive self esteem. In this day and age these are fantastic assets for young students to have in their life.
Drama is a vehicle for developing valid and fundamental life skills. Expressive and confident communication is essential in aiding us to make connections with people, excelling in school, landing that dream job, achieving goals and striving to be the best that we can be. It inspires students to aspire.
Drama classes are a positive and safe learning environment. Students feel comfortable to establish and nurture friendships, thus then have the confidence to take risks and step outside comfort zones. Through dramatic activities students build critical thinking skills and gain a sense of social/ emotional awareness. Via role-play and games students gain an understanding of empathy - What is it like to be in someone else’s shoes or circumstances? Drama allows students to safely explore people, the world and possibly prepare them for future encounters they may stumble upon in their life.
Drama is a fundamental skill to life as the proverb goes "Tell me and I will forget. Show me and I will remember. Involve me and I will understand.” ~ Chinese Proverb. Through Drama students can develop an understanding of each other and the world we live in.
